At least ten doctors have left Al-Myadin city, east Deir Ezzor, for Turkey in the recent months due to the repetitious ISIS’ harassments and restrictions against the medical and nursing cadres in Deir Ezzor province.
In the same context, the health sector is facing several challenges in Deir Ezzor, including the extreme and violent rule of ISIS and the Russian airstrikes, which keep on targeting the field hospitals in the province. Moreover, the international healthcare organizations have stopped providing support to the healthcare projects in the province under the pretext that they do not deal with terror organizations. In addition, there is an extreme shortage of healthcare workers and medical cadres after most of the doctors and nurses fled Deir Ezzor, and there are no faculties or universities that could fill the current gap in the health care sector.
It should be noted that ISIS has announced that it would open a faculty of medicine in Deir Ezzor, however, the group has done nothing up until now.
