Sources for D24 network confirmed that there is an unprecedented activity of smuggling operations from areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Al-Shaitat area to the Assad’s forces areas on the opposite bank of the Euphrates River east of Deir Ezzor.

The same sources indicated that the smuggling operations include crude oil and oil products (gasoline, diesel) as well as wheat from some areas of al-Shaitat to the Assad’s forces areas on the other side of the Euphrates River.

The sources also confirmed that those involved in the smuggling operations are a group of leaders in the SDF-linked Deir Ezzor Military Council and some officials in the councils of the self-governance department in the region.

The sources said that the smuggling is often carried out at night, and there are several points for smuggling, such as (Layith Al-Kashkiyah), where 70-liter plastic drums are used in the smuggling, that are transported in fishing boats and small tankers.

It is indicated that the smuggling operations from the areas controlled by the SDF to the Assad regime held areas of Deir Ezzor are very active on the banks of the Euphrates River through smugglers and brokers between the two sides.
